Matadors put out Firestorm with strong performance on the road

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (19-3, 4-2) delivered an emphatic 8-0 win over Arizona Christian U JV on Monday night in Glendale, extending their winning streak to five games.

Arizona Western took control early with two runs in the second inning and never looked back, building a steady lead across the middle frames. The Matadors received an immediate spark from Anthomy Lucero, who set the tone on the mound with two perfect innings and three strikeouts to open the game.

The offense kept the pressure on behind steady at-bats and patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks and collecting 11 hits. Dan Kawanishi led the way, reaching base five times while tallying three hits, one RBI and two walks. Trace Garrison powered the run production with a pair of hits, three RBIs and a double.

Arizona Western's pitchers dominated throughout the night, holding Arizona Christian U JV to just two hits and no runs. The Matadors' staff combined for 15 strikeouts over nine shutout innings, while the defense turned a double play and allowed only one error. The team also flashed speed on the bases with five stolen bags, adding to a complete all-around effort.
