Two Matadors earn ACCAC baseball player of the week honors
ACCAC Baseball Players of the Week - Week 1
Division I – Pitcher of the Week
Thijs Helms – Arizona Western College
Helms delivered a dominant performance on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out four in a victory over Community Christian. The right-hander did not issue a walk to anchor an 18-0 win for the Matadors.
Division I – Player of the Week
Elias Huber – Arizona Western College
Huber powered the Matadors' offense, hitting .667 (6-for-9) with 11 RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, and a home run in a four game sweep of Community Christian. He produced a six RBI performance in an 18 0 win for the Matadors.
Division II – Pitcher of the Week
Grey Gusich – Paradise Valley Community College
Gusich was outstanding in his start against Chandler-Gilbert, working 5.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. The right-hander limited traffic with only three walks to earn the win for the Pumas.
Division II – Player of the Week
Brandon Ornelas – South Mountain Community College
Ornelas hit .333 (4-for-12) on the week with three RBI, two walks, and a stolen base. He recorded hits in all three games against Central Arizona and Phoenix College, including a multi-hit effort in an 8-4 victory over the Vaqueros.
