Baseball finishes off sweep of Community Christian with 11-1 win
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Baseball team (34-17, 18-14) completed the series sweep over Community Christian (1-38, 0-36) on Saturday afternoon in Palm Springs, Calif., at Palm Springs Stadium, winning the series finale 11-1.
Andres Ontiveros went 2-for-4 with a double and triple while driving in two runs to help the Matadors take the series finale over the Saints 11-1 in six innings.
The Matadors scored the first four runs of the game and led 4-1 after the Saints pushed a run across in the fourth inning.
Arizona Western stretched the lead out in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs in the fifth before plating four in the sixth inning to pull away.
Javier Diaz went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, and Matadors' starter Sergio Lugo allowed one run over five innings of work and struck out six batters in the win.
The Matadors return home on Thursday, April 24, to take on Central Arizona in a make-up game at Noon. The game will be played at Walt Kammann Baseball Field with the Matadors being the road team.
