Baseball opens California road trip with 2-0 win over California Miramar
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (31-17) opened up a four-game road trip with a 2-0 non-conference win over California Miramar in San Diego, Calif., on Thursday afternoon.
Matadors' starting pitcher Ismael Cordoba tossed five shutout innings, striking out four batters, and reliever Aiden Schmidgall kept the Falcons off the scoreboard with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Matadors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI double from Gerardo Castro, who added to the lead in the fifth on an RBI double off the bat of Nathan Houston to cap off the scoring.
Javier Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, and Houston finished the game with two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double.
The Matadors are back in action on Friday, April 18, taking on Community Christian in Palm Springs, Calif., at Palm Springs Stadium in a single nine-inning game at 2:00 pm to open a three-game ACCAC series.
