YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (10-2) opened up a five-game homestand with a doubleheader sweep of the California Miramar University Fighting Falcons (0-3) on Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 17-5 before winning game two 14-3.

The Matadors slugged three home runs in a 17-5 win in six innings in game one of the doubleheader, led by Parker Husu who went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in the win.

Husu got the scoring started, smacking a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Matadors the lead before the Matadors added eight more runs in the third inning, batting 13 times in the frame. Bronson Neave drove in a pair with a double in the inning as the Matadors upped their lead to 10-0.

After the Fighting Falcons scored three runs in the fourth inning, Javier Diaz blasted a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 12-3.

California Miramar scored two more times before the Matadors plated five runs in the sixth inning, ending the game on a Gregorys Mateo grand slam.

The Fighting Falcons scored the first three runs of game two before Diaz hit his second home run of the day, a three-run homer to tie the game in the second inning. The Matadors scored four runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a Nathan Houston two-run double.

Arizona Western scored seven runs in the fifth inning, capped off by an Andres Ontiveros three-run homer to give the Matadors a 14-3 win in five innings.

Both Diaz and Houston finished the second game with two hits and Husu reached base twice while driving in two runs in the win.

The Matadors are back in action on Friday, February 14 hosting the No. 16 ranked College of Southern Nevada Coyotes in a doubleheader beginning at Noon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
