Six Arizona Western Baseball sophomores ink with four-year schools
YUMA, Ariz. – Six Arizona Western Matadors baseball sophomores have signed to continue their academic and collegiate baseball careers at the four-year level.
Two-time All-ACCAC performer Robert Miranda has signed to play at the University of South Alabama after appearing in 107 career games over two seasons at Arizona Western. Miranda batted .371 in those 107 games, batting a career-best .376 as a sophomore this past spring, leading the team in doubles with 19 and leading the ACCAC in runs scored with 63. The University of South Alabama is an NCAA DI institution located in Mobile, Ala., and the Jaguars compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
Sergio DeCello will head to West Lafayette, Ind., next season to play at Purdue University. DeCello led the Matadors in home runs with nine in his lone season at Arizona Western after transferring in for his sophomore year. In 54 games, DeCello batted .292 with 44 runs batted in and stole 16 bases. Purdue University is an NCAA DI institution competing in the Big Ten Conference. The Boilermakers made the NCAA Regionals back in 2018.
Matadors' first baseman Eli Watson has signed to play at Bellarmine University this upcoming year. Watson played in 53 games in his lone season at Arizona Western, batting .319 with 14 doubles and 29 runs batted in. Watson stole 12 bases in 15 attempts and walked 27 times. Bellarmine University is an NCAA DI institution located in Louisville, Ky., and the Knights compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Both Brady Nelson and Taehyung Kim will head to Minnesota to play at St. Cloud State University next season. Nelson appeared in 43 games over the last two seasons for Arizona Western, posting a 9-6 record with a 5.69 ERA, striking out 66 batters. As a sophomore, the Oro Valley, Ariz. native went 4-2 with a 4.25 ERA, throwing 48.2 innings. Kim played in 53 games this past spring as the Matadors' starting shortstop, batting .277 with three doubles, three triples, and three home runs. The sophomore from Marana, Ariz., drove in 31 runs and put together a .431 on-base percentage. St. Cloud State University is an NCAA DII institution located in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and won 32 games this past spring.
Marcus Graham has signed to continue his career at Missouri Baptist University after playing in 84 games the last two seasons for the Matadors. The catcher batted .269 with 34 runs batted in during his career at Arizona Western and batted a career-best .293 as a freshman in 2023. Missouri Baptist University is an NAIA institution located in Creve Coeur, Mo., the Spartans compete in the American Midwest Conference.
