Matadors Baseball summer ball update
YUMA, Ariz. – 14 Arizona Western Matadors baseball players are spread throughout the country this summer, continuing their baseball seasons in various summer collegiate leagues.
Sergio DeCello – Cowlitz Black Bears (West Coast League): Sophomore catcher Sergio DeCello is one of four Matadors playing for the Black Bears this summer in Longview, Wash. DeCello has played in 13 games for the Black Bears driving in a pair of runs. DeCello recorded a two-hit game in the Black Bears' 9-5 loss to Springfield on June 14.
Marcus Graham – Swift Current 57's (Western Canadian Baseball League): The sophomore catcher has played in 15 games and has recorded four doubles while driving in eight runs. Graham has put together back-to-back games with two RBIs and has hit safely in four of his last six games.
Robert Miranda – Boone Bigfoots (Coastal Plains League): Miranda has played in 13 games for the Bigfoots and has driven in four runs. The sophomore second baseman picked up two hits in his last game played on June 17.
Eli Watson – Arroyo Seco Saints (California Collegiate League): Watson has helped the Saints get off to a hot start, leading the team to a 6-2 record, tied for first place in the California Collegiate League Sout division. The sophomore first baseman has played in three games for the Saints and has drawn three walks.
Nathan Houston – Moose Jaw Miller Express (Western Canadian Baseball League): The Freshman infielder is off to a hot start in his second season with the Miller Express, batting .397 with two doubles, a pair of triples and a home run while driving in 16 runs.
Luca Hoerger – Swift Current 57's (Western Canadian Baseball League): The freshman outfielder joins Marcus Graham in Swift Current, playing for the 57's. Hoerger has played in eight games and has driven in three runs.
Mac Robertson - Cowlitz Black Bears (West Coast League): The freshman right-hander is coming off his best outing of the summer, tossing five shutout innings in a win over Kamloops on June 13. Robertson has made three appearances and has struck out eight batters in 10 innings.
Yoni Castro - Cowlitz Black Bears (West Coast League): The freshman right-hander has appeared in five games in relief for the Black Bears, striking out 12 batters in 9.2 innings. Castro tied a season-high with three strikeouts in three innings at Springfield on June 15.
Bronson Neave - Cowlitz Black Bears (West Coast League): The freshman infielder has played in 10 games for the Black Bears this summer and is currently on a three-game hitting streak. Neave is 5-for-12 in the last three games and has hits in five of his last six games played.
Hugo Tafoya – Boone Bigfoots (Coastal Plains League): The freshman right-hander has pitched in four games for Boone in North Carolina, striking out six batters in 4.1 innings. Tafoya tossed two shutout innings in his Coastal Plains League debut on May 27.
Ismael Cordoba – Hays Larks (Rocky Mountain Baseball League): Cordoba is one of three Matadors spending the summer in Hays, Kansas and has made two starts for the Larks, working five innings. Cordoba allowed just one hit over three innings of work in a start on June 12 against the Kansas Cannons.
Felix Brunner – Hays Larks (Rocky Mountain Baseball League): The freshman right-hander has made one appearance for Hays, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings in a game against the Dodge City A's on June 4th, recording a strikeout.
Aiden Schmidgall – Hays Larks (Rocky Mountain Baseball League): The former Gila Ridge product has allowed two earned runs over seven innings in relief, striking out four batters. Schmidgall threw four shutout innings out of the bullpen in a win over the Denver Cougars on June 9.
