YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Baseball (27-14, 20-12) rebounded after losing the opener 10-1 to battle back and win game two 12-10 to split a doubleheader on the road against Cochise (33-19, 17-17) on Thursday afternoon at Bo Hall Field.

The Matadors fell behind early in game one when Cochise grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Matadors tied the game in the top of the second inning when Wesley Estrella stole third base and scored on the throw from the catcher that sailed into left field, tying the game at 1-1.

The Apaches went on to score the final nine runs of the game over the course of the next five innings to take the opener over the Matadors.

Arizona Western opened the scoring in game two, scoring a run in the third inning on a Robert Miranda sacrifice fly before Cochise grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Leroy tripled in the top of the fourth and scored on a Noah Roberts single before Gabriel Perez smashed a two-run home to put the Matadors up 4-2.

Trailing in the 5-4 in the fifth Estrella singled in a run to tie the game and later gave the Matadors a 6-5 lead by scoring on a wild pitch.

With the game tied at 6-6 in the eighth inning, the Matadors scored a pair of runs on a wild pitch and bases-loaded walk and scored 6 of the final eight runs in the game to pull away for the win.

The Matadors are back home on Saturday, hosting Pima in an ACCAC doubleheader at Walt Kammann Baseball Field beginning at 12:00 pm.
