Stark collects three hits in Matadors' 8-1 loss to Southern Nevada
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (2-2) dropped its second consecutive game to Southern Nevada (4-0), 8-1, on Sunday afternoon in Henderson, Nev. at Morse Stadium.
The Coyotes scored seven of their eight runs in the first four innings, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. The Matadors scored their lone run in the eighth inning thanks to an Oskar Stark RBI double into the left field corner before Southern Nevada responded with the final run of the game in the bottom half of the eighth.
Stark led the Matadors with three hits, finishing the game 3-for-4 with the RBI double while Jared Davis extended his hitting streak to three games by going 1-for-4 with a walk.
Reece Longstaff was the second Matador to put together a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 in the loss and Ben Fierenzi doubled, scoring the only run for the Matadors.
Freshman Bobby Lane tossed two shutout innings in relief, recording a strikeout.
The Matadors return home on Friday, February 3, hosting Northeastern at noon in game one of a four-game series at Walt Kammann Field.
