SB: 9's for #9 AWC lead to sweep of GWS
YUMA, Ariz---After opening up the offense in a 9-1 win over Southern Nevada on Friday, the 9th ranked Arizona Western Matadors (7-2 overall) scored nine more runs in each of their Saturday wins to finish a perfect 4-0 in the 2020 Great Western Shootout at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
In Saturday's lone game, Sadie Chavez picked up with her extra base heroics from the night before by ripping a double and a triple. Azalea Moore continued her tear at the top of the Arizona Western lineup with a multi-double game. Chloe Garcia fueled the big day with a home run and four RBI.
Mckenzie Gray tossed five innings without allowing an earned run.
The Mats picked up right where they left off with another 9-1 win over El Paso on Saturday morning. Nicole Moran spurred the attack with a 3-3 day, driving in five runs with a double and a pair of triples. Anahi Grijalva threw five innings surrendering just one run to get the win for the Matadors.
Arizona Western wrapped up the Shootout with a 9-4 win over Colorado Northwestern Saturday afternoon. Garcia again spurred the attack with a 2-2 game, knocking her second homer of the tournament and driving in four.
The Lady Matadors are now 7-2 on the year and will open up conference play against South Mountain on Tuesday. Both games will be played on the Charlie Dine Softball Field on the Arizona Western Campus.
