SB: #9 Lady Matadors Split Final Day in NV

HENDERSON, Nevada---After surrendering eight runs in an early morning loss, the #9 Arizona Western Matadors (3-2 overall) bounced back with an 8-0 shutout to wrap up the final day of the CSN Kick-off on Saturday.

Mckenzie Gray kept the #5 Salt Lake Bruins close for the first three innings, but SLCC tallied a five run fourth to open up a 8-1 lead.

That wrapped up the scoring as the Matadors got their lone run on Alyssa Darby's RBI double that plated Azalea Moore in the third.

Neither team mustered much offense the rest of the way and Salt Lake fended off AWC 8-1.

It was a quick turnaround for the Lady Matadors against Northwest Kansas Tech as the Matadors found their stride offensively.

Darby doubled two more times and drove in three more runs but it was Moore's home-run that showed the Matadors were clicking on offense.

Moore and Darby, 1-2 in the Western lineup, combined for six hits in eight at-bats with five runs scored.

Gray started again and tossed four scoreless innings to improve to 2-1 on the season. Anahi Grijalva tossed a scoreless fifth to close out the 8-0 win.

Arizona Western returns to Yuma to host the 2020 Great Western Shootout on Thursday. The Lady Matadors will play once at 6:00pm on Thursday night.
