YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College softball team had a full slate last week with eight games. AWC went 6-2 in that stretch, and infielder Allison Betty was a big reason why. The sophomore was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Division I Player of the Week after going 15-27 at the plate.
In addition to hitting .556 during the week, Betty also drove in eight runs and scored nine times. She posted five multi-hit games and slugged .778. Plus, she hit six doubles. In the team’s 11-8, extra-innings win at Pima, Betty went 3-4 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk.
This season, Betty is second on the team with a .423 average. She leads the team with 14 RBI and eight doubles, and she also has hit one home run. The sophomore from Redondo Beach, Cali. also has four stolen bases.
The Lady Mats are 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the ACCAC after sweeping Scottsdale on the road earlier this week. AWC heads to Paradise Valley on Saturday for a doubleheader that starts at noon.
