Baseball moves up to 10th in latest NJCAA DI Baseball poll

YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western College Matadors' baseball team moved up one spot to 10th in this week's NJCAA DI Baseball poll.

The Matadors finished off another perfect week, winning all four games, sweeping both Mesa and Glendale, outscoring both teams 55-13 in the four games.

Matadors offense stays hot, sweeping Gauchos in doubleheader

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 11 ranked Arizona Western Matadors (37-5, 21-3) swept a doubleheader with Glendale (19-21-1, 9-15) winning game one 9-1 before taking game two 18-6 Saturday afternoon at Walt Kammann Field.

Jorge Carvajal struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings, allowing just one run while the Matadors hit three home runs on their way to a game one win.

Navarro, Fabian help Matadors sweep Thunderbirds

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 11 ranked Arizona Western Matadors (35-5, 19-3) swept Mesa (19-17, 8-14) in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Mesa, winning game one 14-0 before coming from behind and winning game two 14-6. 

Joseph Taveras tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits as the Matadors scored seven runs in the second inning on their way to a 14-0 win in game one.

Lendeborg earns NJCAA Third Team All-American honors

YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western Matadors men's basketball player Yaxel Lendeborg was named NJCAA Third Team All-American on Wednesday morning. 

Lendeborg played in 31 games for the Matadors, averaging 12.0 points per game, and led the Matadors with 11.0 rebounds per game. 

The freshman forward finished third in the ACCAC in field goal percentage, shooting 61.5 percent from the field while also leading the conference in offensive rebounds with 138 and total rebounds with 341.

Lady Matadors swept in doubleheader by Bears

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors (11-24, 6-20) were swept in a doubleheader by Phoenix (29-3, 23-3) 12-2 and 12-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.

Angela Oros and Christina Robles each went 1-for-3 with an RBI but Phoenix College used a pair of five-run inning to open up a lead and would hang on to beat the Lady Matadors 12-2 in game one of the doubleheader.
