Softball at Eastern Moved to Friday

Due to expected inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday in Thatcher, the Arizona Western Matador Softball team has moved their games against Eastern Arizona to Friday, April 30th.

The Lady Matadors are on the road Thursday at GateWay and will continue the road trip in Thatcher on Friday.

Thursdays games will be streamed through GateWay Community College's Athletic Website. Friday's games at Eastern will be streamed on livestream.com/eacmonsters

Early Goal Sets AWC Back in Loss to Scottsdale

YUMA, Ariz---A corner kick in the opening minute trickled through the box before being tapped into net and set the Arizona Western Matadors (3-4 overall, 2-3 ACCAC) back in a 2-1 loss to the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes (3-2 overall, 3-2 ACCAC) Saturday night at the Matador Soccer Field.

The Matadors had to play in comeback mode for the second time in 72 hours after the opening goal from Tori Woodward and never could muster the same magic they had in Thursday's comeback.

Matadors Net Nine in Route of GateWay

YUMA, Ariz---Pouring in four goals in the first twenty minutes, the Arizona Western Matadors (6-3 overall, 5-2 ACCAC) road the momentum to a 9-0 route of the GateWay Geckos (0-6 overall, 0-6 ACCAC) Saturday afternoon on the Matador Soccer Field.

Jesus Sanchez opened the scoring with his first of two goals in the fifth minute as AWC averaged a goal every ten minutes with unselfish passing and a barrage of strikes.

Offense Comes Alive in Sweep at Eastern

THATCHER, Ariz---Utilizing 18 runs over the course of 16 innings, the Arizona Western Matadors (28-12 overall, 20-10 ACCAC) swept Saturday's double-header on the road against the host Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters (3-21 overall, 3-21 ACCAC) to move into third place in the ACCAC standings.

Oliver Frias was 6-8 on the day with six RBI and a home run to spark the offense while Juan Salazar delivered a home run in each game.

Matadors Miss Sweep of Central by 1 Inning

YUMA, Ariz---Leading for 13 of the 14 innings on the day, the #19 Arizona Western Matadors (26-13 overall, 14-8 ACCAC) missed their first sweep in six opponents due to Central Arizona's  (24-11, 18-8 ACCAC) two run seventh in game two, forcing the split Saturday afternoon at Charlie Dine Field.
