Martinez's overtime goal gives Lady Matadors 2-1 win over Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors women’s soccer team (6-0, 4-0) outlast the Phoenix Bears (7-1, 3-1) 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night at Hoy Stadium.

Both teams traded possession in the first five minutes with the first real chance coming for Phoenix thanks to a penalty. Lady Matadors’ goalkeeper Tia Kelk guessed right and dove to make a save to keep the game scoreless.

Makedika scores late winner as Matadors beat Phoenix 3-2

Men's Soccer | 09/20/2022

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors men’s soccer team (8-1, 4-0) scored three unanswered goals to comeback and beat Phoenix (6-1-1, 2-1-1) 3-2 to win their seventh consecutive game on Tuesday night at Hoy Stadium.

Despite controlling possession early, the Matadors found themselves behind in the eighth minute of the game when Phoenix got past the Matadors’ backline and knocked a ball of the post for the game’s first goal, taking a 1-0 lead.

Centeno named Chapman Automotive Group Student-Athlete of the Week

YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western College Lady Matadors women's soccer player Jaeda Centeno was named the Chapman Automotive Group Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 11-17. 

Centeno helped the Lady Matadors to a pair of wins over the week, scoring five total goals, including a three-goal performance in an 8-0 win at GateWay on September 13.

Men's soccer moves up two spots to No. 8 in NJCAA poll

YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western College Matadors men's soccer team moved up two spots to No. 8 in this week's release of the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer poll.

The Matadors share the No. 8 ranking with Monroe College after winning two more games over the week. The Mats picked up a win in Mesa, Ariz. on Tuesday, beating GateWay 3-0 before returning home on Saturday to beat Glendale 5-0.

Women's Soccer remains at No. 16 in latest NJCAA poll

YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors women's soccer team checked in at No. 16 once again in the latest NJCAA DI women's soccer poll on Monday.

After two more wins last week, the Lady Matadors improved their record to 5-0 and recorded two more shutouts. Arizona Western started the week with an 8-0 road win at GateWay on Tuesday before returning home to pick up a 15-0 win over Glendale Saturday evening at Matador Soccer Field.
