    Second Again

    YUMA, Ariz. – For the second straight season, the Arizona Western football team wrapped up the regular season undefeated, and the Mats (9-0 overall, 7-0 Western States Football League) also finished as the second-ranked team in the final regular season NJCAA poll.

    Total Control

    YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western football team closed out the regular season in style on Saturday afternoon. The second-ranked Mats (9-0 overall, 7-0 Western States Football League) scored two long touchdowns in their first four offensive plays. The Matador defense shut down 19th-ranked Scottsdale and held the Artichokes to 27 total yards in the first half as the Mats romped to a 66-14 win.

    Up Tempo

    YUMA, Ariz. – Transition buckets and a quick tempo keyed the Arizona Western men’s basketball team on Tuesday night in Yuma. A tight game turned into a double digit Matador lead quickly as AWC stayed on the gas against Imperial Valley. Five players scored in double figures as the Mats (1-0 overall) went on to win 98-68 in their season opener.

    400 Strong

    YUMA, Ariz. – A fast, furious start powered the Arizona Western women’s basketball team to a huge early lead, and the Lady Mats controlled the rest of the game to open the 2017-18 season with a win. The Lady Mats cruised past Tohono O’odham 85-40 to record the 400th win in program history.

    Josselyn Morris knocked down a three on AWC’s first offensive possession, and the Lady Mats ripped off a 14-0 run. Aimee Brett capped it with a layup with 5:30 left in the first quarter.

    Stable Amid Confusion

    YUMA, Ariz. – While the top five shuffle around in the latest NJCAA poll, Arizona Western has been a beacon of stability. The Mats are in second for the fourth straight week (and gained ground again) as the first and third place teams swapped places. None of the teams in the top four lost.

    YUMA, Ariz. – Defensive players have to have a “nose for the ball” to both read fakes and force or recover turnovers. AWC defensive end Tyrik Jones fit that description perfectly on Saturday, and the sophomore defensive end was named the Western States Football League Defensive Player of the Week.

    Hitting Turbo

    YUMA, Ariz. – Dejhion Parrish stuffed the stat sheet for the Arizona Western football team on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore piled up a whopping 174 yards and three touchdowns on only four rushing attempts, and the second ranked Matadors crushed Mesa 64-23 in Yuma. The Mats scored in all three phases of the game (offense, defense, special teams).

    Prospect Camp

    YUMA, Ariz. – Calling all prospective baseball players! Arizona Western baseball is hosting a fall prospect camp on Saturday, November 18 at Kammann Field on the Yuma Campus of AWC. The cost is $60 for pitchers and $80 for position players or two-way players.

    The check-in for pitchers and catchers is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Position players and two-way players check-in at 12:30 p.m.
