Three second-half goals help Matadors to 3-0 win over LSU-Eunice

TYLER, TX - The Arizona Western Matadors (19-1-0) opened pool play of the NJCAA Men's Soccer Championships with a 3-0 win over LSU-Eunice (8-6-2) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Matadors got goals from Romaric Berneron, Michael Appiah, and Nozomu Kamei, all in the second half, opening pool play with a win over the Bengals.

Arizona Western held possessions for a majority of the first half and created the best chances but neither team could open the scoring in the first 45 minutes.

The Matadors didn't waste much time in the second half, opening the scoring in the 47th minute when Romaric Berneron found a ball in the box and beat the keeper, putting the Matadors in front 1-0.

LSU-Eunice had trouble gaining possession as the Matadors created more chances in the second half, doubling the lead in the 75th minute when Appiah beat the defender down the touchline and smashed a ball past the keeper at the back post, pushing the advantage to 2-0.

Kamei left no doubt, adding the Matadors' third goal just a minute later, going back past from inside the box, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Matadors' goalkeeper Gianni Honsel stopped the only shot on target by the Bengals.
