YUMA, Ariz---Another terrific chapter in the story of Arizona Western Matador Soccer extending its playoff streak to 12 consecutive seasons has been enhanced with four Matadors landing on All-ACCAC teams including the conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Australian Freshman Duro Dragicevic led the conference in save percentage among keepers who played over 1,000 minutes. Dragicevic posted an .821 percentage with 55 saves including multiple saves that preserved wins for AWC. Dragicevic's ability to communicate, strong leg, and incredible reflexes all played apart in the first-team recognition.
Also on the All-ACCAC first-team is Matador striker Michele Signorelli who lead the conference with 13 goals. Signorelli, a freshman from Bergamo, Italy, provided many highlights for AWC including a last minute header to tie Chandler-Gilbert and a five goal performance against South Mountain.
Matador captain Derek Fournier landed on the second-team as the leader of the Matadors stingy backline. The Mats posted eight clean sheets on the season and Fournier was often seen protecting the keeper and clearing dangerous crosses. The captain's role expanded largely because of Fournier's leadership and skill from the back.
Another defender from England, Jed Bowman made the All-ACCAC Honorable Mention list. Bowman displayed incredible skill in the back and often helped the Matadors deliver counter attacks with his ability to dribble and create opportunities. The freshman was a key anchor in the Matador defense all season.
Arizona Western will look for more success as the begin the post-season on Monday night against Paradise Valley at 6:00pm on the Matador Soccer Field in Yuma, AZ.
