MSOC: Bear's Header Enough to Stop Mats

BOX SCORE

PHOENIX, Ariz---Lightning struck at least twice as a flighted ball into the box was headed in to stop the Arizona Western Matadors (4-2-1) four match win streak in a non-conference loss to the Phoenix College Bears (5-1) at Hoy Stadium Saturday night.

The cross, after a two hour weather dealy, proved to be the combination that slowed down a Matador offense that had scored 29 goals over a four-match win-streak coming into Saturday's contest.

Takuto Ugawa’s cross to Kazuyuki Hawa found the net in the 43rd minute and proved to be the lone goal for Phoenix in a defensive struggle.

The Bears had most of the offense forcing Matador Keeper Duro Dragicevic to be active in net with seven saves.

The Mats had just two shots on goal as they suffered their first loss in over two weeks.

Arizona Western will return home for a final non-conference match against Imperial Valley (CA) Thursday, September 19th at 7:00pm on the Matador Soccer Field in Yuma. It will be the lone game of the day before they open conference play at Reach 11 in Phoenix against Paradise Valley at 2:30pm.

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
