Matadors fall in NJCAA Men's Soccer Championship final 2-0 to Iowa Western
TYLER, TX - The Arizona Western Matadors (21-2-0) saw their season come to an end with a 2-0 loss in the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Championship final to Iowa Western (21-1-1) on Saturday night.
Iowa Western took a lead quickly, opening the scoring in the 13th minute when the Reivers took the lead on a miscue, finding a loose ball at the top of the box and finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
The Matadors had two shots on target in the first half but could not tie the game before the break.
Arizona Western picked up the pressure early in the second half, almost tying the game off a bad pass in the box but was denied by the keeper at the near post.
The Reivers put the game away in the 78th minute, taking a 2-0 lead.
21 wins for the Matadors is the most in program history, and national runner-up is the best finish by any Matadors' men's soccer team in school history.
