YUMA, Ariz. – A historic season in the book of Matador Men’s Soccer added an inspiring finish as Freshman Goalkeeper Duro Dragicevic was named the ACCAC’s Male Student Athlete of the Year.
The award encompasses Dragicevic’s stellar freshman year at Arizona Western as the Australian Keeper led the Matadors, as a Team Captain, to the NJCAA Tournament in Tyler, Texas by posting six clean sheets and a pair of NJCAA Top Plays.
Dragicevic’s 94 saves were the second most in the conference, just two off the conference lead, as he was the most tested keeper of any of the Region I Playoff teams.
That success has led to numerous awards including 1st Team All-ACCAC and 1st Team All-Region I as the lone keeper named to both squads. The conference does not name a Goalkeeper of the Year.
While leading the Matadors to historic Region and District Championships, Dragicevic also got it done in the classroom posting a perfect 4.0 over the course of the year to garner 1st Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors.
The banner season will be Dragicevic’s only one in Yuma as keeper is moving on to The University of Charleston in West Virginia and will play apart in the NCAA Division II National Champion’s title defense when play resumes.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
