YUMA, Ariz. – Sophomore guard Alfonso Plummer came out firing for the Arizona Western College men’s basketball team. The sweet-shooting lefty shot 53% from the floor and was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week earlier this week.
Plummer averaged 19 points per game as AWC went 3-2 during the first two weeks. He leads the conference with 22 made three’s in five games, and he has shot 47% from beyond the arc. Plummer is tied for second in the conference with 95 points.
Plummer’s 19 points per game lead the Matadors, and he is one of three players averaging in double figures. He set a career high with 36 points in the team’s season opening 82-72 win over Yuba College, and he has hit double figures in four of AWC’s five games.
Arizona Western is off this week, but the team dives into conference play next week on the road at Central Arizona College on Tuesday, November 20. The team comes back to Yuma for its home opener on Friday, November 23 for the Desert Classic.
The Desert Classic is set for Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24, and it features four games both days. Games start at 1:30, 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The Lady Mats play in the 5:30 slot both days. The men cap the night both nights at 7:30.
