TISHIMINGO, Okla---A cold shooting day from outside might have been enough to hold the Arizona Western Matadors (1-2) back just enough in an 84-80 loss to Murray State College in the final game of a three-game trip to Oklahoma.
The Mats shot just 4 of 20 from three but hung in the contest behind 23 points from Daniel Kiely.
Pharoh Allah added 17 points off the bench while Gio Nelson and Jalen Townsell both finished in double-figures for the Matadors.
But the Matadors hit just a pair of three pointers in each half while Murray State hit twice as many in the game to build a lead.
Despite the outside shot, the Matadors found a way to stay in the game by converting turnovers into points and converting on free-throws. AWC shot 28-39 from the stripe while Murray State was just 20 of 42.
The Matadors will have one more road game, Wednesday at Palo Verde College in Blythe,CA at 8:30 PT/7:30 MST. Then, AWC will open at home Friday night against Palo Verde, again, at 7:30pm as apart of the Desert Classic.
