Matadors Well Represented with Awards

A third straight region championship resulting in the program’s first NJCAA National Tournament appearance since 2006 culminated the Arizona Western Matador Basketball season in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Monday, the NJCAA announced the final awards for the 2018-19 season with the release of the All-Americans.

Sophomore Alfonso Plummer, the Region I leader with 126 made three-pointers, was named as a NJCAA Division I All-America Honorable Mention. The guard from Puerto Rico also earned first team all-conference honors from the ACCAC and All-Region honors for the best players from Region I’s Division I teams.

Joining Plummer as a first team All-Region member is freshman guard Bryson Langdon out of Chicago, Illinois. Langdon also earned a spot on the All-Conference 2nd Team while averaging 16.3 points per game in his first year as a Matador.

Matador Head Coach Charles Harral was named the NJCAA District I Coach of the Year as the team eclipsed 25 wins for the second time in the past three years and appeared in the District Championship for the fourth time in eight seasons.

Arizona Western concluded the season with a record of 25-9, 16-6 in the ACCAC and won 9 of their final 11 contests.
