Matadors Use 3's to Defeat Central, Advance to Region I Final

YUMA, Ariz---After nearly a month removed from there last competitive game, the #22 Arizona Western Matadors (11-2 overall) looked rested and refreshed, using a deep attack-both from long range and the bench-to eliminate the Central Arizona Vaqueros (3-10 overall) from postseason and advance to the Region I Final.

1st Team All-ACCAC selection Najeeb Muhammad was perfect on his six three-point attempts, four of which came in the second half, and engineered the offense as the Matadors led almost the entirety of the game, finishing with a game high 26 points and five assists.

Leo Gerrardo added four three's with 16 points of support and Yaxel Lendeborg added 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Lendeborg was a part of the Matadors advantage on the glass, 32-24, but 11 offensive rebounds that helped prolong the AWC attack.

The Matadors complete a perfect 8-0 home schedule, the first perfect home schedule in the ten years under Head Coach Charles Harral.

Arizona Western will return to the Region I Final for the fifth straight year, taking on the ACCAC Champion Cochise Apaches at 4:00pm on Saturday.

No fans are permitted but the game will be streamed for free through the Cochise Athletics Website.
