Matadors Head to Glendale Saturday for Double Dip
The Matadors Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams hit the road Saturday for a couple of key ACCAC contests against the Glendale Community College Gauchos in Glendale starting with the Women at 2pm.
Both games can be heard in Yuma on AM 560 KBLU and streamed worldwide on Livestream.com.
The Lady Mats will look to bounce back from Wednesday night’s eight point home loss in which they were 0-16 from deep in the second half. Still, the Matadors are right in the thick of the ACCAC standings as 2nd place through 8th is filled with nine teams separated by just three games.
Both the Lady Mats and Gauchos are 3-5 in the conference, tied for 8th.
ACCAC Player of the Week Mar Ibern continued her hot streak with her third double-double of the season by registering 17 points and 10 rebounds in Wednesdays loss.
The Gauchos are led by a trio of Sophomore guards that combine for 50.6 points per game. Mallory Vivola (18.5ppg), Tierney DeDonatis (18.4ppg), and Kirsten Shinshke (14.7ppg) account for over two thirds of the Glendale offense.
The matchup to watch will be on the boards where both teams are in the top half of the conference in rebound margin but Glendale is 2nd in the ACCAC at plus 7.1 rebounds per game.
On the Men’s side, the Matadors look to string together their third consecutive win to start 2019.
The Matadors have put up consecutive 90 plus point performances in a variety of ways. But center Abderrahmane Hailouf has solidified the post with 8 blocks in the last two games and posted a 14 point, 13 rebound double-double Wednesday.
Forward Andre Allen is coming off a 21 point outbreak in Wednesdays win as well.
Glendale will counter with a wave of three-point shooters boasting the conference’s second best three-point team by percentage (39.1%). The Gauchos sit two games back of the second place Matadors entering the game.
Coverage of the game will begin on 560 KBLU and Livestream.com at 1:50pm.
