Matadors offense explodes in road win at Miramar
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Arizona Western baseball team (23-4, 6-3) powered to an 11-4 win over Miramar College on Tuesday afternoon in San Diego, using a relentless offensive attack and aggressive baserunning to secure a non-conference victory.
Miramar jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Arizona Western answered right back in the third, pulling even with a pair of runs to set the tone for the rest of the contest. The Matadors surged ahead in the fifth with three runs, showcasing their ability to generate offense throughout the lineup.
The bats stayed hot in the middle innings, as Luis Angulo set the pace with a home run, double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Jamie Beerman provided a spark with two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Go Watanabe and Dan Kawanishi each reached base multiple times and contributed to the nine steals on the day.
On the mound, Joris Meinsma delivered six strong innings, striking out six and earning his third win of the season. The Matadors' pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts and allowed just four runs in the victory.
