YUMA, Ariz. – Over the weekend, former Matador Maurice Alexander signed with the Seattle Seahawks to extend his professional career. Alexander is entering his fifth season in the National Football League after playing with the Los Angeles (formerly St. Louis) Rams for his first four years.
Alexander compiled 113 tackles in his first four seasons with the Rams. Last year, he had 20 tackles in four games before being waived. His best season came in 2016 when he had 50 tackles, four passes defensed, two interceptions and one sack in 14 games.
A fourth-round draft pick out of Utah State in 2014, Alexander played for AWC for two seasons back in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, he was a force on defense and led the team with 98 tackles and 19 tackles for loss, and he tied for the team lead with eight sacks. He also broke up four passes and intercepted one. The Mats went 10-2 that year and traveled to the Hot Bowl in Texas.
In 2009, Alexander put together a strong freshman campaign with a team-high 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks. He was second on the team with 81 total tackles, and he intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown.
