Strong Finish

YUMA, Ariz. – Success on the field and in the classroom is the goal, and Arizona Western College student-athletes achieved both this year after grades were released. Fourteen players were nominated for NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards by having at least a 3.6 GPA, and four teams were nominated for NJCAA All-Academic Team honors with a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

The volleyball team led the way with a 3.31 team GPA. Women’s soccer posted a 3.17 GPA, and softball was close behind with a 3.08 GPA. Women’s basketball rounded out the group with a 3.00 GPA.

A pair of players were awarded NJCAA All-Academic First Team spots for perfect 4.0 GPA’s.

Six players were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team with GPA’s between 3.8 and 3.99.

Six more players were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team with a 3.6-3.79 GPA.

Combined, the athletic teams finished with a 2.85 cumulative GPA this year. More than 40 players have signed with four year schools with more expected to sign during the summer. Seven teams made the playoffs, and three teams claimed conference or region titles.

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
