Mats Excel In and Out of Class

YUMA, Ariz. – The fall semester proved to be just as successful in the classroom for Matador Athletics as it was on the field, as 134 student-athletes averaged a 3.295 GPA in the fall with 61 Matadors landing on the Dean’s List.

All seven Matador teams posted cumulative GPA’s over 3.0 with Matador Volleyball leading the pack with a cumulative 3.6 GPA while reaching the Region I Final.

The Women’s team as a whole performed very well in the classroom as the four programs; Volleyball, Softball, Women’s basketball, and Women’s soccer combined for a 3.4 GPA with 31 female student-athletes landing on the Dean’s List.

The three men’s teams were also well represented as Baseball led the Dean’s List count with 13 and Men’s Soccer joining the double-figure count with 11 achieving the benchmark.

The achievements in the classroom are a perfect compliment to what the Matadors accomplished in the fall as Women’s Soccer (3.4 GPA/9 on Dean’s List) and Men’s Soccer (3.2 GPA/11 on Dean’s List) each continued historic runs. (In addition to Volleyball’s previously mentioned accomplishments)

The successes come on the heels of the recently refurbished Matador Athletic Success Center in which each Matador Athletic Program spends study time as a team and can seek personalized help in any subject.
