Matadors Above 3.0 in Classroom Again
While the Matadors had excellent success on the field in the compacted 2021 spring schedule, they had even more success in the classroom.
For the third consecutive year, the seven teams comprising the Arizona Western Matador Athletic Department, have taken care of business in the classroom by posting a cumulative GPA above 3.0 with 38 student-athletes earning All-Academic distinction.
It was the second consecutive year in which the Matador student-athletes, along with many others around the country, had to adapt to a new schedule. This time, however, all seven Matador teams had to adjust to competing in the spring semester.
Still, AWC student-athletes adapted brilliantly, with five All-Academic first team members, 15 on the All-Academic second team, and 18 more making third team All-Academic.
Matador Volleyball posted a cumulative GPA above 3.5 with seven different student-athletes making the All-Academic teams and 12 total students on the dean's list. They did this all while being a fall sport adjusting to a unique spring schedule, landing in the Region I Final on the court.
Men's Soccer also concluded their season in Region I Final and led the department with 15 on the Dean's List. Seven student-athletes earned All-Academic honors.
Matador Softball's Region I Final appearance was also outdone in the classroom with 14 on the Dean's List and nine on the NJCAA All-Academic Teams.
