Taveras moves on to Texas Wesleyan

YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western College Matadors' baseball player Joseph Taveras will continue his baseball and academic career at Texas Wesleyan University next year. 

Taveras pitched in 37 career games, making 32 starts over three seasons at Arizona Western, striking out 212 batters over the span of 186.1 innings of work. The right-hander struck out a career-high 86 hitters this past spring, posting a 9-3 record, leading the Matadors in wins while displaying a 2.68 earned run average.

Taveras struck out a season-best 13 batters in a complete-game shutout win over Pima on February 26, tossing seven scoreless frames, and allowing just four hits. 

In 2021, Taveras set his career-high in strikeouts, recording 14 strikeouts in a complete-game win at Paradise Valley on April 3, allowing just one earned run on three hits in nine innings. 

Texas Wesleyan University is an NAIA institution located in Fort Worth, Texas. The Rams compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference and have been in the NAIA national tournament six times in the last 13 seasons.
