Former Matador Flores named to MLB's Futures Game
YUMA, Ariz. - Former Arizona Western Matadors' baseball player Wilmer Flores was named to Major League Baseball's 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
Flores is in his second professional season in the Detroit Tigers organization, currently pitching for the Erie Seawolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Tigers in the Eastern League. Flores currently owns a 3-2 record with a 2.95 ERA over nine starts for the Seawolves, striking out 50 batters over the span of 39.0 innings pitched.
The right-hander started the season with the Tigers' Single-A affiliate the West Michigan Whitecaps, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.83 ERA, fanning 35 batters in 19.2 innings before being promoted to Double-A on May 17.
Last season, Flores split time between the Tigers' rookie affiliate, the FCL Tigers, before finishing the season with the Lakeland Tigers, Detroit's Single-A affiliate in the Florida State League. In the span of 14 games at the two levels, Flores went 6-4 with a 368 ERA.
Flores pitched for the Matadors in 2020, appearing in six games during the COVID-19 shortened season, posting a 1-0 record with 16 strikeouts in 11.2 innings of work.
Following his season in Yuma, Flores was signed by the Detroit Tigers as a Non-Drafted Free Agent on July 10.
