YUMA, Ariz---While Major League Baseball transactions have been hard to come by lately, Matadors flamethrower Wilmer Flores signed as an undrafted free-agent with the Detroit Tigers organization.
The right handed native of Venezuela displayed a power arm in his lone spring with the Matadors, striking out 16 batters in just 11.2 innings over six appearances for Arizona Western before the pandemic hit.
The freshman notched a save in his very first collegiate outing, striking out the side in consecutive innings to close out the 7-3 Matador win against the College of Southern Nevada.
Flores displayed an ability to flash his power stuff over multiple innings out of the bullpen as he struck out multiple batters in each of his four outings that lasted multiple innings.
Flores enters an organization that is currently flush with some of the top prospect arms on the mound in baseball.
He also follows his brother, who's name is also Wilmer Flores, into professional baseball. His brother is currently with the San Francisco Giants.
