CHANDLER, Ariz. – Oliver Firas homered in his second straight game and the offense scored six runs over the final three innings as the Arizona Western Matadors (16-9 overall, 6-6 ACCAC) knocked down the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes (11-13 overall, 5-9 ACCAC) 8-3 in a non-conference win Monday afternoon.
With the game shifted to Chandler due to impending weather, Arizona Western took the reigns of a 2-2 game in the sixth.
Delano Selassa and JC Navarro had RBI singles in the seventh with Juan Salazar’s sacrifice fly sandwiched in the middle of the three-run inning.
Frias’ solo homer early helped the offense steady before the three-run seventh and the Matadors opened the ball game up with three more in the ninth.
Raleigh Pelkonen, Wilmer Flores, and Angelo Wicklert combined to keep the Coyotes without a hit over the last 5.2 innings in relief to lock up the 8-3 win.
