Matadors see season come to an end with 8-3 loss to Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western College Matadors baseball team saw their season come to an end, losing game three of a best-of-three series to Cochise 8-3 on Saturday afternoon.

JC Navarro gave the Matadors an early lead, smacking a solo home run in the first inning, putting the Matadors in front 1-0.

Cochise would tie the game in the bottom of the first inning with a run before taking the lead in the second, scoring a run to take a 2-1 advantage.

Matadors keep season alive with 5-4 win at Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Matadors kept their season alive on Friday afternoon, outlasting Cochise 5-4 in 10 innings to force a decisive game three in Douglas.

Both starting pitchers held each team in check through the first four innings, trading scoreless innings until the fifth.

Matadors drop heartbreaker in extra innings to open series at Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors dropped the opener of the best-of-three Region I semi-final series to Cochise 11-7 in extra innings on Thursday afternoon. 

After the Matadors went down in order in the top of the first inning, Cochise loaded the bases with two outs before Matadors’ starter Joseph Taveras recorded a strikeout to get out of the jam and keep the game scoreless.

Matadors drop a pair of close games to Apaches

YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western Matadors (43-13, 27-11) were swept in a doubleheader by Cochise (40-14, 26-10) losing game one 2-0 before falling in game two, 7-6 in Douglas.

The Matadors were held to just three hits in the series-opening 2-0 loss on Tuesday afternoon. Juan Gil Franco allowed two unearned runs while striking out eight batters in a loss.
