YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western baseball pitcher Thijs Helms is this week's Chapman Yuma student-athlete of week. The sophomore pitcher from the Netherlands continues his strong stance on the mound as the Matadors make their way down the home stretch of the regular season schedule. Helms, pitched a solid game in a 4-3 loss versus Cochise College on April 3rd, tossing six innings, allowing only one run while striking out seven batters. Helms followed that strong outing this past weekend, hurling seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out six in Arizona Western's 4-2 on the road versus Eastern Arizona on April 10th. On the season, Helms is 5-2 in nine starts with a 4.50 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 48 innings. The Matadors are back in action this week with a schedule that contains five games, starting Tuesday April 14th at 2:00 p.m. versus California Miramar University at Walt Kamman Field.
