Ten Shindo named Chapman Yuma Player of the Week
YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western baseball player Ten Shindo is this week's Chapman Yuma "Player of the Week." The freshman shortstop from Japan finished last weekend's three game home series versus Yavapai 7-13 with 3 HR and 8 RBI which includes two walk-off homeruns. Shindo hit a homerun in each of the three games against the Roughriders starting with a 2 run HR in the first inning in game one of Arizona Western's 7-6 win on Friday, April 17th. Shindo then added a walk off gland slam in game two as the Matadors won 14-1 in five innings. Shindo's heroics were again in display in the series finale as he connected for a walk off homerun in the 11th inning, propelling Arizona Western to a thrilling three game sweep. On the season, Shindo is second on the Matadors in batting average (.424) homeruns (7) RBI (48) and stolen bases (21). Arizona Western is currently tied for second place in the ACCAC standings and hit the road this week for a crucial three game series against conference leader College of Southern Nevada. Arizona Western trails the Coyotes by three games with six games remaining in regular season play.
