Arizona Western's Diego Alcala is named this week's Chapman Yuma Player of the Week. The sophomore pitcher from Barcelona, Spain was on dominate on the mound versus No. 14 Cochise College on Saturday afternoon. The southpaw tossed 5 2/3 innings allowing only two hits and one run while striking out eight in Arizona Western's 4-1 win Saturday afternoon. The win for Alcala improved his record to 6-2 on the season in 9 start and is now tied for the ACCAC lead in wins with six. Diego also has 56 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings pitched this season across 9 starts. The Matadors are back in action this Friday and Saturday for another ACCAC showdown, this time on the road as they travel to Eastern Arizona for a doubleheader on Friday and the series finale on Saturday.
