YUMA, Ariz. – The offense paved the way past Pima Community College for the Arizona Western College baseball team on Tuesday afternoon. The Mats racked up double digit hits in both contests to sweep PCC 11-5 and 9-4.
YUMA, Ariz. – Student-athletes aren’t the only ones working to improve while in college. Arizona Western College volleyball coach Lorayne Chandler also is continually striving to improve as a coach, and her efforts have already yielded rewards. This week, she was named one of the top young coaches in America in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 Awards.
YUMA, Ariz. – Tuesday afternoon the Arizona Western College softball team swept Glendale Community College after scoring six runs in both games. In game one, the Lady Mats used a big fifth inning to rally for a 6-2 win. Game two featured consistent offense that pushed AWC past GCC 6-1.
YUMA, Ariz. – Pitching powered the Arizona Western College baseball team all afternoon, and the offense added in timely hits. The result was a 7-3, 8-2 sweep of Paradise Valley Community College. The Mats only trailed once the entire afternoon and piled up 19 hits.
Split with Paradise
YUMA, Ariz. – Early offense gave the Arizona Western College softball team the lead in games one and two of a doubleheader. In game one, the Lady Mats made it stick to beat Paradise Valley Community College 3-2. In game two, AWC fell 9-7 after PVCC rallied in the third and fourth innings.
At the start of game one, the leadoff runners for both teams scored in the first inning. PVCC’s Alexis Malave came home when Alexis Gonzalez hit a two-out single to right field.
YUMA, Ariz. – Eight proved to be the magic number on Saturday afternoon for the Arizona Western College softball team. The Lady Mats swept Scottsdale Community College 8-0 in six innings in game one before winning 8-4 in game two. The offense racked double digit hits in both games.
YUMA, Ariz. – On a blustery Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Western College baseball team rallied to split with Glendale Community College. The Mats hit three homers in game two on the way to an 8-5 win after falling 5-4 in game one.
Daniel Lafarga set the tone in the first inning of game two for the Mats (27-8 overall, 9-6 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference). He crushed a home run to straightaway center field for a 1-0 lead and his eighth homer of the season.
Jailbreak Tourney Success
YUMA, Ariz - Arizona Western College volleyball partnered with USA Volleyball to host the first Yuma Jailbreak Tournament this past weekend. The tournament was part of a grassroots effort to build volleyball throughout the country, and everything went off without a hitch. Twenty-six teams from Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma and Mexico competed in the tournament staged in three locations.
