    Varied Attack

    YUMA, Ariz. – Positionless, multifaceted players are headlining the current evolution of basketball. Mathilde Diop, nominally a guard, filled a variety of roles this season for the Arizona Western College women’s basketball team. She signed a National Letter of Intent to join Colorado University next season after one season with AWC.

    All-Region Recognition

    YUMA, Ariz. – A pair of standouts for the Arizona Western softball team were honored earlier this week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Pitcher Belinda Gonzalez and infielder Allison Betty were named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team for the West District.

    Two Sports, Next Step

    YUMA, Ariz. – Playing one collegiate sport requires time and effort, but playing two takes someone special. Arizona Western’s Rob Jones has proven to be special after spending the past year playing both football and basketball. Jones signed with Miles College and will transfer there to play basketball for the fall after graduating this spring.

    “We are happy for Rob,” said AWC head basketball coach Charles Harral. “He was a great person and athlete at Arizona Western College.”

    YUMA, Ariz. - Congrats to all of our 2017 graduates! The Matador athletic department is incredibly proud of what you accomplished here both on AND OFF the field this year!     Sophomore Success

    YUMA, Ariz. – The sophomores on the Arizona Western men’s soccer team have one final record to break.     Continuing Friendship

    YUMA, Ariz. –. A pair of softball standouts, Belinda Gonzalez and McKenna Pisciotta, both signed with New Mexico Highlands before graduation. The two were fast friends and roommates at Arizona Western, and that friendship will continue on their next stop in their education.

    YUMA, Ariz. – Need a positive activity to start the summer off on the right foot? Check out the Matador Basketball Camp! The Arizona Western basketball program is holding its annual summer basketball camp from June 5-8 (Monday-Thursday), and registration is open now for kids from K-12th grade.

    Stuck on Base

    YUMA, Ariz. – Two late rallies fell short on Friday afternoon for the Arizona Western baseball team in the West District Tournament. The Mats couldn’t get their offense in gear with runners in scoring position and fell to Central Arizona 4-1 and Southern Nevada 6-4. The losses eliminated them from postseason play.
